    1. Account support

If you have a localhostr.com account, you can enter your username and password here so the files uploaded will be saved to your account. When logged in, the password field will be empty by design. To ensure you're logged in, check the button says 'Logout'.

    2. Settings

localhostr uploadr has quite a few settings which can be toggled on and off. The settings are 'live' which means once you (de)select an option, that particular option is set. The settings are explained in the settings section.

    3. Copyright links

This small area shows the relevant copyright info for localhostr uploadr with links to the sites of the people who made the program possible.

  • Custom drawn screenshots

To use the custom drawn mode you draw a selection rectangle by holding the mouse left button down and dragging the mouse to draw out the selection. The 4 corners allow for changes to be made to the size of the selection area after drawing. You can also move the selection area from any part of the selected area. Drawing from an unselected area will allow you to create a new selection area. When you are happy with the elected area, either press the Enter key or, click on the white cross in the top left hand corner. To cancel the screenshot press Escape.

Should you wish to take a screenshot of the entire screen, simply hold down the Ctrl key and either press Enter, or click on the white cross in the top left hand corner.

    Window grabbing screenshots

To use the window snapping mode mode you move the mouse to be over whichever window you wish to take a screenshot of. As a visual aid, the entire screen will be darkened except the window you're hovering over. The window you're hovering over will also get a red border around it to show the area that will be captured. In Vista/7 some windows will have a blue border which shows some padding has been added to the window boundaries to allow for the window shadow. To select the window simply left click anywhere over the window and a screenshot will be taken of just that window. There is no need to worry about windows overlapping each other as localhostr uploadr will ensure the window you're hovering over will be on top of other windows before the screenshot is taken and uploaded. To cancel the screenshot simply press Escape.

If the window you select is running with elevated privileges then localhostr uploadr will use a helper program called lhu-helper which will give a UAC prompt and will need to be allowed to execute with elevated privileges to ensure the screenshot is taken properly.

  • The settings available from the preferences window a detailed below. They are all on/off type settings and once you (de)select an option it is applied immediately. The preferences are only saved to the config when localhostr uploadr exits normally, if it's main process is killed unexpectedly, the settings that you changed will be lost and will have to be reset.

    Always on top

When enabled this will make localhostr uploadr appear above all other windows. When disabled it will behave like other windows and allow other windows to appear on top of it. Although localhostr uploadr doesn't appear in the taskbar, it still appears in the Alt-Tab list of windows (as well as Flip3D on Vista/7) and so if you have the always on top setting disabled you won't lose the window.

    Autocopy URL after upload

Enabling this option will automatically copy the URL that localhostr returns to your clipboard. Please note, this will erase what is already on your clipboard and will do it as soon as the upload is complete. If you value your clipboard data it is not recommended to enable this option and by default is disabled.

    Show hide button

Enabling this option will hide the "hide button"; the little horizontal bar in the top right corner. This option is only here to allow some users who don't want the button there. It is possible to hide the window using the Escape key when localhostr uploadr has focus irrespective of this option's setting.

Show tray icon (Windows Vista/XP only)

Enabling this option puts an icon for localhostr uploadr in the system tray. Having the system tray icon enables you to hide the main window while uploading and also allows access to an upload menu for easier access to the upload options. If this option is disabled, then both the hide button (see above) and pressing Escape will close localhostr uploadr completely where as when it is enabled, localhostr uploadr will just be hidden from view and continue to run from the system tray.

Show in superbar (Windows 7 only)

Enabling this option makes localhostr uploadr visible in the Windows 7 superbar. With this option enabled, you will have easy access to the jump list tasks as well as the upload history in the jump list. If you have localhostr uploadr pinned to the superbar you will still be able to access the jump list with this option disabled. This option has the same effect on the hide button as the 'show tray icon' option.

    Show toast alerts

Enabling this option will show toast notifications when an upload has finished. From the toast notifications you will be able to copy the URL of the uploaded file without showing the main window. The toast notifications will automatically hide after the mouse has been out of the toast notification boundary for 1.5s.

    Use IE proxy settings

Enabling this option will use the proxy settings from Internet Explorer. This option supports both a manually set proxy and the automatic configuration setting using PAC files. Should you have proxies set for different protocols then localhostr uploadr will only use the proxy specified for the HTTP protocol.

    Save transparency in window grabs

Enabling this option means that the window grab screenshots will save the transparency information of the selected window. If you are running Windows Vista/7 and enable this option the Aero shadow will also be captured as well as the glass transparency. For more details, see the screenshot documentation below.

  • There are some options for localhostr uploadr that aren't immediately obvious. These settings are ones that aren't really meant to be used by the majority of people. They do not appear in the config unless explicitly set by manually specifying them in the config file.

    adv_screenshot_cmd

This option allows a command to be executed on the file generated after taking a screenshot. The argument is a pathname to the executable to run, for example, to run MS Paint, have adv_screenshot_cmd %windir%\system32\mspaint.exe in the config file. Do not wrap the pathname in quote marks (") even if it has spaces as it won't work. The current working directory before executing the command will be same directory that contains the main localhostr uploadr executable.

    adv_screenshot_cmd_args

This option sets the arguments to be passed to the adv_screenshot_cmd setting. If localhostr uploadr finds %1 in the specified value, it will be replaced by the full pathname to the file that the screenshot was saved to. So, for the MS Paint example, adding adv_screenshot_cmd_args "%1" would open the screenshot file in MS Paint. It is highly recommended to wrap the %1 with quote marks (") as the pathname may well contain spaces.
